Wikipedia, the free internet encyclopedia, says: "Tic-tac-toe, also called noughts and crosses, hugs and kisses, and many other names, is a pen-and-paper game for two players, O and X, who take turns to mark the spaces in a 33 grid. The player who succeeds in placing three of their own marks in a horizontal, vertical or diagonal row wins the game."

While generally played on a 3 x 3 board, many modifications of Tic-Tac-Toe are available. Jeff Boulter's Tic-Tac-Toe Internet page allows you to play board sizes from 3 x 3 up to 7 x 7! with up to 7 in-a-row.

Play Tic-Tac-Toe with your kids. It helps them see diagonals, an important aspect of many games that most children find difficult.

Wikipedia also notes what can be for some kids an important negative about the game. "Players soon discover that best play leads to a draw, regardless of where the first player plays. When they have discovered an unbeatable strategy they move on to more sophisticated games." For example, Connect Four, a Tic-Tac-Toe like game with generally fewer draws than Tic-Tac-Toe still requires 'seeing' and 'creating' diagonals.

The Walking Turtle Software Group is developing several versions of Tic-Tac-Toe for Internet use as well as Tic-Tac-Toe standalone executables as part of WTS's Goals to develop Computer Games that utilize Artificial Intelligence to Educate, Inform, Test and Train.

As part of this development The WTS Consulting Group: consulting@walkingturtlesoftware.org is interested in some type of interaction with programmers who are working on or want to work on coding 'The Latest and Greatest' Tic-Tac-Toe Game ever!

As Wikipedia details, this 'simple' game can be used to learn some of the 'tricks' and to build some of the 'tools' needed to make good computer games.
